Cincinnati Marlins
Overview
The Cincinnati
Marlins operate one of the most successful competitive swimming
programs in the United States. Our team has produced some of
the greatest swimmers to compete on a local, state, national and
international level. 18 Marlins have represented the U.S. in
the Olympics, tallying 23 medals and participating in every games
since 1968. Another 6 Marlins qualified to swim for the U.S.
in the 1980 Olympics, but were unable to compete due to our
nation’s boycott of the Moscow games. The Marlins were
National Champions in 1980 and won the Junior National
Championships in 1983, 1984, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. In
2006 our team won the Junior National Men’s Championship with
our combined team taking the runner-up award. In 1999 Swimming
World magazine named the Marlins as the best age-group program in
the country. Marlin swimmers have set 15 world records, 19
American records, won 60 national championships, and been named
American swimmer of the year 6 times. The Marlins have won 10
consecutive sectional championships and over 30 Ohio Junior Olympic
Championships since 1971. In 2007 the Marlins were named, for
the second year, as a Gold Medal Club by USA Swimming, ranking
8th nationally. Also in 2007, 66 Marlins swimmers,
competing for 25 different high schools, qualified for District and
Regional (Kentucky) Championships, with 41 of those swimmers
advancing to State Championships. 6 Marlins won State
Championships with one swimmer winning two national
titles.
The Marlins operate 5 training locations:
Marlins East at Sycamore High School, Marlins South at
Northern Kentucky University, Marlins West at Taylor High School in
North Bend, OH, Marlins North at Princeton High School in
Sharonville, OH, and our largest location and headquarters, Marlins
Central at Keating Natatorium on the campus of St. Xavier High
School. Keating Natatorium is a 50-meter indoor facility which
can be divided into two 25-yard pools. Keating has seating
capacity for over 1000 spectators and is the site of many USA
Swimming and High School meets and championships. The Marlins
are the only swimming program in the area that manages their own
facility.
The Marlins welcome swimmers of all ages and
abilities. Our program is divided into multiple training
groups appropriate for each swimmer’s stage of
development. We employ one of the most highly qualified and
professional coaching staffs in the nation.
The Cincinnati Marlins have
operated since 1961 and are organized as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit
corporation. The corporation is owned by the parents of our
swimmers. An elected board of directors oversees the
program’s operation. Our Head Coach is responsible for
the day-to-day operations of the team, assisted by a full-time team
manager and a business manager.
