Alumni News

Every day our swimmers learn new things about the storied history of the Cincinnati Marlins, but our alumni know best about the past.  Hopefully they are sharing their story with you and I’m sure they would love to hear about your experiences as well.  If you haven't done so already, we need your Info.  Please send your updated home and email addresses as well as any current updates to your life since swimming with the Marlins.  Please send any information to jwolford@cincy-marlins.com.

We were pleased to recently hear from Tina Lipe, one of the original members of the Marlins.  Tina was joined on the team by her sisters Heidi and Gretchen, who also was a coach with the team.  Their father, Bruce, played a key role in the founding of the Marlins.  Bruce is 92 years old, mentally sharp and fighting bone cancer.  We hope to have contact information posted soon.  We would like to thank Bruce and his family for their many contributions to the tradition and successes of the Cincinnati Marlins.  The current team continues to honor and draw strength from the history of our team.

Former Marlin Jake Keefe is mentioned in an article of Swimming World Magazine, talking about how his swimming experience has helped him in the Navy.  Click Here to read the article.

Former Cincinnati Marlins Head Coach Dennis Pursley named British Swimming Head Coach.  Click here for details.

In 1980, six Cincinnati Marlins (Kim Carlisle, Lisa Buese, Bill Barrett, Mary T. Meagher, Glenn Mills and Stephanie Elkins.  Marlin coach Dennis Pursley was also slated to be a member of the Olympic staff) qualified to represent the United States at the Moscow Olympics.  Our country’s boycott of the games denied them the opportunity to represent the United States. Click here and here to read about efforts to recognize these swimmers and here to read Swimming World magazine’s coverage of the 1980 National Championships/ Olympic Trials.
